Last Summer Fell to Winter, and Now Spring's Ahead
Check out my new website design, the artistry of my webmaster/mistress Jane Murphy, making www.elyseoconnor.com a new place to visit, complete with changing lighting at different times of the day: 5-7 a.m. and p.m. sunrise and sunset--daytime sky--evening sky. Brava Jane and Thank you Thank you Thank you for your technical skill and creativity. Still working on the newest album, title not yet decided. Six new tracks from the studio soon to be enhanced with more instruments and goal for release is this late spring into summer. Received more grants awards for more musical visits to seniors this year, together with Duane Sullivan and Todd Theriault via the Massachusetts Cultural Council in some of greater Boston towns and cities. Also just completed another round of MUSE, Inc. musical visits for their Paul Wiggin Gift of Song award. AND!!! I'm working on laying a track of my newest original, "Gabriel" and practicing the techniques I learned in the new film "The Secret." My vision: 5,000,000 songs and albums sold very soon!!! Blessings, Elyse

Returned from the west coast the first week of this month, want to move there now, but can't seem to forget that there are rattlers, snakes, bear, mountain lions, forest fires, and earthquakes. In fact, a black bear cub punctuated my San Bernardino Mountains trip with a visit to my brother's backyard. However, I imagine those people who do live in CA, including my brother Joe, don't consume their time thinking about such phenomena. In the meantime, I'm breaking out of a box I've recently identified, and having a summer cold that just wouldn't quit has helped me to renew my committment to taking care of physical needs, among them being the goal of getting back in the recording studio. Anyone wanting to contribute to the evoution and/or development of that project, just let me know. Blessings, Elyse

This week will be a light week for singing, good time for voice rest. Last week I connected with a remarkable flute player---versatile, creative, and skillful. Check out his website at www.tapperandbridges.com. I'm looking forward to $$$ conditions allowing me to return to the studio to work on my "Just Love" project, and when I do, I'll ask Steve Tapper join me for flute tracks. And the price of gas will go up once more--I think oil companies need a good injection of generosity of spirit. More critical is the lesson that Katrina and Rita have brought: are we going to seek and promote more alternative energy sources in the future? End any dangerous overdependence on petro chemical products? I keep thinking about the tobacco industry and how they have pressed on, in spite of the obvious hazards of smoking. When a corporation feels it must continue to earn profits, in spite of the obvious danger of its products, then society is forced to protest. Elyse

Holiday Concerts Coming Up
Elyse in Concert: Cranberries, Carols, and Christmas Stew December 21, 2005 at 1 p.m. Riddell Road Community Center 5 Riddell Road E. Bridgewater, MA USA Admission Free: Event Sponsored by the E. Bridgewater Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. Program: A collection of holiday music, including Elyse's arrangement of Un Flambeau, Jeanette Isabelle, Santa Baby, Il Est Ne le Divin Enfant, Silent Night (including German version), Gesu Bambino, and Elyse's new vocalise, Gabriel. Elyse's Angel Story, a true Story: I have an angel story to share: In February of 1988 I had a dream about an angel I recognized and called "Gabriel" in my dream. Immediately, Gabriel sent a stream of light, like a bolt, in my direction. I sat up in bed, awake, feeling a strong and wonderful tingling sensation throughout my body. After a few moments, I lay my head down to go back to sleep, and the minute my head hit the pillow, I was back in the same place in my dream, but the angel had gone. In times of difficulty, I remember that dream, and now, years later, I see it as an important even in my life. In fact, a year after the incident itself, I was singing at a Jewish Community Center and a 90 year old man came up to me and said, "You know, there is a legend about the Angel Gabriel that says he touches/kisses the lips of those who are born to sing." When praying to God to help people in the world, I now remember to ask Gabriel for his blessing. After a couple of days praying during the Katrina disaster, I heard a TV news announcer say: "And the little girl Gabriella was united with her parents..." I keep thinking I was meant to hear that. To read more about angels, surf on over to my friend Ethel Pontsler's website, www.angelady.net In the wake of Rita's onslaught upon the Gulf Coast, my prayers and best wishes go out to all who must evacuate, including my cousins Kerrie and Lee Hendricks in Baytown, Texas. Sitting here listening to Josh Groban's version of "You Raise me Up," echoes of CNN and
a day full of tragic New Orleans coverage fill me, and I weep. A once pretty melody with rather nice words deepens in impact and meaning---I imagine myself in New Orleans. What it would
mean for me, how I would feel; how much I want to be there to help, extend my able hand.
We raise each other up. Yet, see how confused and lost some of us are now? How some
rage and cry and die alone, a humble and sacred exit. Thousands: 911, Middle East, Tsunami, New Orleans. Thousands, in an instant. In a blink. Dead. Gone. No more. Only memories and barely.
Islam's extremists speak so highly of Death, and bring it unhaltingly to our feet. Was life given to extinguish with such passion? With such wreckless abandon and cruelty?
Can a storm have such passion? Indifferent, sublime, crashing down and over, Katrina lived and expired in a day. She leaves behind a legacy: We raise each other up, if only, if only, it happens once in a while, now and then; it happens at all and that matters.
Like Christ bore his cross, we must all bear ours, but together we raise up Christ/s light, Allah's
jewel, Buddha's Flame, and Israel's crown for God and mankind.
When we bleed we all bleed red. The source of life is in each of us, differently, but together
